"People often ask me what music I listen to, and I find it difficult to describe my enormous music collection in just a few sentences. So I created iTSM to answer in sound a question I cannot answer in words."
Jason Freeman's iTunes Signature Maker rummages through your collection of audio files and then generates a sound collage based on certain criteria: number of songs sampled, length of each sample, number of songs layered at any given moment, and appropriateness of sample (determined by play count or rating).
I found the iTSM after chasing a link from Nicholas Rombes's fantastic blog on "Incompleteness." After playing around with Freeman's criteria and generating several iTunes Signatures, what most delights me about his program is its embrace of randomness. For example, I love how my signature happens to fade into Miranda July saying, "right here, together," and the combination of Cat Power's voice and Cliff Martinez's cue from Solaris is the perfect way to end.
