Possible Topics of Conversation

Wednesday, November 17, 2004

  • This article at The Onion. That was so me in 1987. Except I was only 15.
  • Yesterday's DVD release of The Office Special, which is the most satisfying TV I have ever seen. If I had to pick a favorite quote from The Office -- and picking only one seems horribly unjust -- it would probably be this bit from Dawn: "A girl in my class is now running her own website auction company and happily married to a marine biologist. She used to eat chalk." Perfect.
  • The new Song of the Moment, "Julia," by the Beatles. I rediscovered this song while playing through an old songbook, and I still can't get over how beautiful it is. Most remarkable is that it is so beautiful despite its melody, which is incredibly dull through the verse. Notice how long ol' John stays on that A.
  • The tweaks I made to Long Pauses last night. One bonus point to the first person who can name all three men in the title bar picture. Two extra bonus points if you can also identify where the photo was taken.
  • The fact that I just turned in the first part of the first chapter of my dissertation. Let me repeat that: 20 months after defending my proposal, I JUST TURNED IN THE FIRST PART OF THE FIRST CHAPTER OF MY DISSERTATION! And it's longer than the first half of my master's thesis. Drinks are on me.
