The latest issue of Senses went live today, which is always cause for minor celebration. Two friends have contributed to the Great Directors series this time. Doug Cummings has written a great piece on Krzysztof Kieslowski and Acquarello took on Theodoros Angelopoulos. I'm ashamed to admit that I have yet to see an Angelopoulos film, in part because he is so poorly represented on DVD. I'm also looking forward to reading "The European Undead," Fran Martin's article on Tsai Ming-liang's What Time is It There?

After a quick perusal of the new issue, my favorite line is from Brian Price's Richard Linklater entry. Describing the rebirth of American independent cinema in the early-90s, Price writes:

This shift in the industry had very little to do with changing modes of production to make better art possible. Lest you think I'm overstating things, try and imagine another period in which a film as thoughtless and styleless as The Brothers McMullen, not to mention the career of Ed Burns, could get made.
